Frequently asked questions

Answers for anyone submitting a screenplay to ReelMetrics during the private alpha.

What is ReelMetrics?

ReelMetrics is an invite-only positioning and comparable-film tool. You submit a screenplay, our system analyses it, and you receive a report comparing the genre balance of your script to released films. We're in a private testing phase right now — the team is calling this early period "alpha" — so the product is only open to people we've personally invited.

Who is the private alpha for?

"Alpha" is the name for this early, invitation-only testing period, before ReelMetrics is open to the public. Right now that means a small group of invited writers and industry contacts helping us test the product.

What happens after I submit a screenplay?

Your file is received, analysis runs automatically, and the ReelMetrics team releases the report to you. You can follow these stages on your status page.

How long does a report take?

Every report is released by the ReelMetrics team. Availability may take a few business days. When the team changes the comparable-film list, the report says so.

Will I receive an email when the report is ready?

Not automatically — no automated email is sent during this alpha. Keep your status link; it is the source of truth for checking your submission. The ReelMetrics team may also contact you directly by email, text, or another method you've agreed on.

What formats do you accept?

Screenplays in .fdx, .fountain, or .pdf format, up to 100 MB.

Is my screenplay confidential?

Yes. Your submission is seen only by the ReelMetrics team as part of producing your report.

Are scripts used to train AI models?

No. Your submission is used only to create your report.

Who can see my submission?

Only the ReelMetrics team.

What does the report measure?

The genre balance of your script's most promotable moments, the released films whose trailers have the closest genre balance, and a rule-of-thumb audience lean — meant to support discussion, not to replace your own judgment.

Does ReelMetrics predict box office performance?

No. Comparable-title matches are based on similarity in genre balance, not on a prediction of revenue or commercial success.

How are the comparable films chosen?
  • What is compared. Two genre balances: your script's promotable moments (labelled from the text) and each film's actual trailer (labelled from picture and sound). Nothing else enters the ranking: not story, characters, setting, era, tone, rating, budget or box office.
  • The library. A small library of released films, mostly from the 2020s, chosen to cover all eight genres. It is small and is not the whole market. Some genres have few close examples, and some films' trailers read differently from their catalogue genre: 9 of the library's 10 horror-curated titles read as led by Drama or Thriller in their own trailer; only one reads as led by Horror. In a crowded genre mix the same films can be the closest match for very different scripts.
  • How the labels were made. The library's genre labels were generated by AI and accepted largely without individual human review. A film's trailer balance can differ from its catalogue genre: a talky trailer for an action film can read as mostly Drama.
  • What the match words mean. Very close: the film's trailer balance is nearly identical to your script's. Similar: the balance is close, with some difference in emphasis. Loosely related: the two balances share a genre lean but diverge meaningfully. Distant: the two balances have little in common beyond chance overlap. These cut-offs are rules of thumb, not measured thresholds of commercial comparability.
  • The ranking. "Third-closest of N" is the film's place in that ordering. It is not a quality ranking of the film or of your script.
  • Human involvement. Our team can remove, reorder or swap titles from among the ten closest. When they do, the report says so.
Is this a replacement for script coverage or notes?

No. The report is meant to support discussion, not to replace script coverage, notes, or your own creative judgment.

What should I do if my status has not changed?
